In the short story the scarlet ibis by James hurst he uses imagery to help put the image that he wanted In our heads like when he wants to write something that was dark and depressing he would often use the imagery of dark colors. But to under stand what imagery in writing better I went to dictionary. reference.com/browse/imagery and it said the definition for imagery was the formation of mental images, figures, or likenesses of things, or of such images collectively. When doodle dies in this story their is imagery of the bird the book is named after but their is also imagery of color "Doodle! I screamed above the pounding storm and threw my body to the earth above his. For a long time, it seemed forever, I lay there crying, sheltering my fallen scarlet ibis."
A third type of conflict is called character vs. him/herself. This is also referred to as internal conflict, because the character must face self-inflicted fears and problems. Write about this type of conflict, using a piece of literature that you have read.
In the novel night by Elie Wiesel their is a type of character verses himself because he fights himself because he is torn to show emotion and also to try to stay alive.this is a big point of the book because not showing emotions is part of the reason why he loses his humanity. Their was also times during the death marches when Elie wanted to stop but he did not because if he did he would died. The part where character verses himself shows up the most was when his dad dies because if he shows emotions he dies but he wants to live for his dad.
